Health and Safety Management is about just that, keeping people safe and healthy. When we’re growing up, we’re told in school that we can be anything we want. Hey Timmy, you can be an astronaut, a garbage man, a pilot, a singer, or even a fireman! When we get to high school, we meet with the guidance counselor who is supposed to help you figure out what direction you want to go in terms of a career. College is coming soon (for most people), and you’ll need to decide what major you want. This means choosing a path before many people have any clue what types of work they would be good at or even enjoy doing. We’re working in a broken system that needs some major overhauling, but I digress. Here, we focus on helping you maintain your health and stay safe regardless of the job field you’ve chosen. Different job positions require different levels of physical activity and thus vary your levels of stress on a daily basis.
Construction for example is 100% physical labor, requiring brute force and constant movement all day long. This is physically draining and can be stressful on the body, but it’s almost never mentally challenging at all. Now take a job like Program Development at Apple and your brain is going to be tired. Why do you think Apple has so many creative spaces with video games and lounge chairs for people to relax? It’s because without it, their employees would fuc*ing snap and go on a rampage. So, what have we learned? We found out that jobs vary in their nature and each one must be approached from a different viewpoint to succeed. That’s why we’re here! We’ll do our best to assist you in managing your work-life balance and staying sane while you complete your 9 to 5 grind for the next 35 years til you reach 65 and croak prior to retirement. Just kidding! Or am I?
